Oh yeah…I haven’t blogged about the latest ref attack.

In the NHL.  Dennis Wideman of the Calgary Flames claims he didn’t know he was approaching linesman Don Henderson until he collided with him, and he felt awful about it.

The video, however, shows that every word of Wideman’s statement was bullshit.  He was looking up, aware of Henderson’s presence, cross-checked him, and then showed no remorse on the bench.  The Nashville Predators’ bench sure noticed what happened and reacted to what they saw–an assault–rather than reacted to an accident.

No penalty was called–dude got away with it on the ice–but he is now serving an indefinite suspension.  I hope it’s at least half the season: this was a pretty vicious hit in an unusual spate of recent in-game ambush attacks on officials.  This shit’s gotta stop.

Six in a row

Today, I was given a playoff assignment for next Saturday.  Good-sized school girls, two hours north of here (although I do not yet know what teams, obviously).  Two great partners I can travel to the game with: the same partners I had my first really big playoff games with five years ago.

I am honored and will do everything I can to masterfully not f**k it up.
